Miami—A City with a Global Future

Looking at the future of the planet, one trend is clear; urbanism is on the rise and will continue to dominate the reality of humankind for the foreseeable future. More than half of the world’s population as of 2009 lived in an urban setting, the first time in the history of the world. The UN has predicted that by 2050 the urban population of the world will grow to 6.4 billion from its current 3.9 billion. As one of the top 50 urban cities in the world Miami’s undervalued real estate is set to explode.

Growth of the City

In recent years, especially the last decade, Miami has shed its beach town image and has become a beacon of luxury for investors the world over. No longer is it considered a spring break party town, (although that might still be said of beach towns within the urban area of Miami) it has developed and grown its prestige in a large number of areas. One of these grew out of its natural access to the ocean. As the second largest Atlantic access port in North America, the largest cruise-ship port in the world and a major private boater enthusiast’s paradise, Miami’s beach moniker is better represented by massive luxury yachts.

The rise of the arts, culture, entertainment and food industries in the city has provided the much needed attraction for worldwide visitors as well as providing a needed base for local residents. The drive for the growth in Miami is its well-placed geographic location, a solid financial base and an attraction for foreign investors. All of which has created a wealth of projects in the city that will forever change the city, increasing its presence on the worldwide stage with their allure.

Amazing Projects on the Horizon

One of the most interesting from a cultural icon and local attraction point of view is the Miami SkyRise. A 1000 foot observation tower located on the downtown waterfront that will include an amusement park style ride, a ballroom, a movie theatre that moves, a 550 bungee jump, a private club and a nightclub.

Brickel City Center, worth $1 billion in construction costs is bringing a much needed shopping and entertainment complex to the area as well as 5.4 million square feet of office space. Condominium towers will provide luxury residences in this much sought after area.

Port of Miami expansion and the Port of Miami Tunnel are bringing over $2 billion worth of investments to the port to expand its capacity, relieve traffic congestion and enable the port to deal with the ever-larger ships being built and travelling through the Panama Canal.

High Speed rail project All Aboard Florida, the Miami Museum of Science, the New Miami Design District reinvigoration, and Resorts World Miami simply the largest development project in Florida’s history all provide a glimpse into the future of this great city. Other major residential projects like the Paramount Miami Worldcenter offer a further look into what these other projects are doing to the real estate in Miami.

Now is the time to get in on one of America’s largest development booms of this century in a city that is comparatively very cheap to other world destinations.
